STUDIO UPDATE

On January 1,  I moved into my new studio space at artist 311 W. Martin Street Galleries and Studios!  Fellow ChromaZones artist, Rebecca Worters, will be sharing the space (#2) with me.  We're both thrilled to be part of this great group of artists, in the heart of Raleigh's Warehouse District.   Thanks to all who joined us at our February First Friday Grand Opening!

I'm a member of a local group of Raleigh area abstract artists called the ChromaZones.   We display our individual pieces together in group exhibits and collaborate twice a year on two large pieces for donation to two different, but equally worthy, fundraising art auctions: The Works of Heart, benefitting The Alliance of Aids Services and For the Love of Art, benefitting Raleigh's Visual Arts ExchangeIn 2010 alone, we had three group exhibits and completed three collaborative pieces.  In 2011, our collaborative piece titled Le chemin du Papillon was recently juried into and sold at the 2011 Works of Heart Auction.  We donated another collaborative piece titled Sarah's Palette to the For the Love Of Art auction scheduled for February 2012 and we have just completed our sixth large collaborative piece, Full Steam Ahead, which will be exhibited and for sale at our Page Walker Show in Feb-Mar 2012.

Each member of the ChromaZones brings to the group a unique personality, artistic background, and creative perspective, but we all share a common goal of celebrating and promoting the Triangle's area's vibrant visual arts community.

Our first three collaborative pieces were based on simple geometric sketches provided by local abstract artist extraordinaire
Bob Rankin.  Each of us were randomly assigned a section of the sketch to transpose onto a 16" x 20" canvas (donated by Jerry's Arterama), using a limited pre-determined palette.  We had no interaction or communication with the other participants while we created our individual piece. Once everyone was finished, the group reconvened and assembled the 15 pieces. Below are the three finished pieces, each measuring 80" x 60".  We switched things up somewhat in the last year and now use varying canvas sizes and depths, as seen in Le chemin du Papillon and Sarah's Palette below.
